Engineered Wood Flooring - Engine Social
Earlier this year, the much-anticipated Engine Restaurant completed a full renovation of the former pub The Engineers in Sowerby Bridge, Halifax. A key element of this transformation was the flooring, which needed to combine style and durability for a busy commercial environment. Calder Valley Flooring worked closely with Engine to select and install the ideal flooring solution.
Using LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) in an oak-effect parquet design, we achieved a stunning, practical finish that complements the restaurant’s sleek and modern aesthetic. The choice of LVT ensured the floor would stand up to high foot traffic while maintaining its elegance, perfectly suited for Engine’s vibrant new space.
Product
The product chosen was from the Fusion LVT wood collection. The Rich Oak Parquet product is developed with a single specification that is suitable for both heavy-traffic commercial installations and domestic interiors. Fusion brings together a variety of different styles from traditional and historical, to modern and understated designed woods. This product is perfect for the uses that would be coming from this restaurant as it boasts an impressive 10-year commercial warranty (15 year domestic) and promises not to chip, crack or splinter during this time. The product also comes with a slip resistant layer, which is again, perfect for anywhere which serves food and drink. Also an added bonus when choosing this product is that it is environmentally friendly as it is made from 40% recycled materials and is 100% recyclable itself!
Prep
When preparing for the installation,we had to ply the entirety of the area with 6mm ply which eradicates any inconsistencies on the floor, allowing for a smooth and even finish once finished. For this we used the product Hanson SP101 plywood. This has been specifically developed for the purpose of flooring and is quality assured for subfloor preparation. In addition to the ply there were areas of stonework around the premises which had to be hand-scribed up to and then once the ply was installed; a feather finish screed was applied to the joints. This means the fitter has to template the edge free hand as the stonework was not straight and therefore can’t use assistance from a tool. By scribing along the edge the floor is now the same shape and fits perfectly around the bottom of the wall. This is scraped back and left to dry, leaving a perfectly smooth finish throughout.
Installation
LVT is fit by using a good quality adhesive and in this instance, we used a high temperate adhesive. High temperature adhesive can withstand higher temperature surroundings whilst still maintaining its state and adhesion to the subfloor and LVT, perfect for a busy restaurant environment. There were area where we had to hand scribe the floor as it was butting up to stone work, a steady and accurate install is a must to ensure a perfect finish.
Final Touches
For the final touches of this stunning herringbone styled floor, Engine want to be certain the flooring will keep a long-lasting finish. Heavy-duty entrance matting was installed in the foyer of the restaurant. This will tolerate a large amount of footfall, it is designed to absorb water, dirt and small stones which further help to maintain and protect the flooring inside.
No matter how big or small the job is Calder Valley flooring will always promise to give the best possible advice and guidance to ensure the customer is left with a flooring they will be satisfied for years to come. Every detail is important, and we pride ourselves upon supplying and installing high quality great flooring, always!
